Warning – Australian Trade Mark Scam

Please be aware that there has been an increase in fraudulent activity concerning scam emails which purport to come from legitimate registered patent and/or trade mark attorneys alerting clients to urgent trade mark matters and using scare tactics to encourage them to call a nominated number. We have been contacted by a number of clients in the past 24 hours who have now received these scam emails.

The Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys has released a Media Release showing examples of these scam emails which can be accessed below. The scammers are using a variety of business names including TM Registry Filer and Trademark/Patents Registry Hub.

If you receive any emails regarding your trade marks from an unexpected source or which you are unsure about, DO NOT RESPOND. While these emails can appear convincing as some of the information they contain includes accurate details, they are unfortunately another attempt to urgently pressure clients into engaging with a sophisticated scam.

If you have any concerns about correspondence you have received relating to your trade marks in Australia or New Zealand, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
